Avondale House was founded in 1976 by a group of parents of children with autism.  Our first residence and school were located on Avondale Street in Houston, Texas.  In 1984 we moved our school to space leased from Central Presbyterian Church, where we will remain until our new facilities are completed in early 2008.  In addition to our school we have three residences in Southwest Houston where we provide a structured, yet home like environment for those who reside with us.  A third program component is our day habilitation program for young adults with autism, which is also offered on our school campus.

At Avondale House we are committed to the success of our children, young adults, and their families. Over the past thirty years, we have been quietly meeting their needs by providing them with the love, respect, and training essential to experience success.  Measuring their progress on a daily basis, we celebrate all of their accomplishments, both large and small. We attribute their success to the dedication and experience of all of our 50+ staff members, who collectively represent over 330 years of service to Avondale House, our children and their families.
