Thank you for visiting the Avondale House website. For those of
you who may be looking for a bed and breakfast or historic home,
I encourage you to return to your favorite search engine and try
again. For those of you looking for premier resources and services
for individuals with autism, I invite you to tour our website to
learn more about us.
Avondale House
was founded in 1976 by a group of parents of children with autism.
Our first
residence and school were located on Avondale
Street in Houston, Texas. In 1984 we moved our school to space in
and leased from Central Presbyterian Church, where we remained until
December 2007. In late December 2007, construction of our new 33,000
square foot facility was completed and on January 7, 2008 our dreams
were realized when our students and young adults arrived for their
first day at 3737 O’Meara Drive. In addition to our school,
we have three residences in Southwest Houston where we provide a
structured, yet home like environment for those who reside with us.
A third program component is our day habilitation program for adults
with autism, which is also offered on our new campus. Finally, with
our move to our facility we are planning new programs to support
those with autism in our community. They include a program supported
by Easter Seals for children 3 years and younger and a community
education and outreach program for parents and professionals raising
and working with individuals with autism.
At Avondale House, we are committed to the success of our children
and adults with autism. Over the past 33 years, we have been
quietly meeting their needs by providing them with the love, respect,
and training essentials to experience success. Measuring their progress
on a daily basis, we celebrate all of their accomplishments, both
large and small. We attribute their success to the dedication and
experience of all of our 50+ staff members, who collectively represent
over 350 years of service to Avondale House, our children and their
families.
We are grateful for the opportunity to educate, train, and serve
our children, adults, their families, and our community. If you know
someone who might benefit from our services, please encourage them
to contact us. If you are drawn to our mission and would like to
support our work, I encourage you to contact us as well. As I approach
my 22nd year with Avondale House, I remain committed to our mission
of providing children and young adults with autism the education
and training to develop to their fullest potential. I invite you
to join us in the pursuit of this mission. Warmest regards,
Barbara F. Boyett
